Illegal Logging

The following is a summary of information provided by the NSW Forest Products Association relating to illegal logging.

The Illegal Logging prohibition Act 2012 was assented into law on 28 November 2012 and immediately makes it an offence to import and and/or process illegally harvested domestic or imported logs.

No further development of legislation or regulation is required for this high level offence to be enacted, the onus of proof lies with the Commonwealth and the offence can be proved if the person can be determined as knowingly, willingly or recklessly having processed or imported illegally harvested raw logs or regulated products.

NSW FPA has been closely engaged in the development of these regulations and the North Coast Taskforce thank Russ and his team for their considerable efforts
